Salvinia Natans (Floating Fern)

Overview:
Also known as Floating Moss or Butterfly Wings, Salvinia Natans is a floating fern from the Salviniaceae family, native to Africa, Asia, and Central Europe. It thrives in humid environments with plenty of sunlight and is popular in freshwater aquariums.

Appearance:

  • Light green, thick leaves (2-3 inches).
  • Two floating leaves lie flat, while the third leaf acts as a submerged root.
  • Air-filled pouches in the leaves keep the plant afloat.

Care Requirements:

  • Temperature: 17Ā°C – 21Ā°C
  • Lighting: Bright light (Direct sunlight or strong LEDs)
  • pH Level: 6.5 – 7.5

Propagation:
Salvinia grows outward and spreads quickly through spores, covering the entire water surface. Regular pruning is necessary to control its growth.

Did You Know?
