Myriophyllum Aquaticum (Parrot’s Feather)

Overview:
Also known as Parrot’s Feather Water Milfoil, this North American aquatic plant is popular in aquariums and ponds. It was introduced to the U.S. in 1890 and has since become invasive in calm water bodies. Its feathery leaves and vibrant look make it a great background plant for aquascapes.

Appearance:

  • Feathery, bright green leaves arranged in whorls of 4-6.
  • Emergent stems grow up to a foot above water, resembling mini fir trees.
  • May produce pinkish-white flowers (1/16 inch long).
  • Can grow submerged or emersed, reaching 4 to 16 inches.

  • Hardy plant that spreads quickly (invasive in some areas).
